'FIRESTORM # 2' - (Steinbach, Manitoba, Canada) March 17th, 2007

Presented by SMO Muay Thai & Sincy Outhaivong.

SMO and Promoter Sincy Outhaivong presented Firestorm Part 2 on Saturday March 17th, 2007 in Steinbach, Manitoba. The event was sold out.

The event offered a variety of fighting disciplines to watch including Modified Muay Thai, Mixed Martial Arts, Grappling, Kickboxing, and knock down Karate (Kyokushinkai Karate).

Four athletes from Calgary attended the event and the results were as follows:

Main Event - 3 rounds of K-1 Rules

This bout was not really Muay Thai because in keeping with the rules of the K-1, clinches are discouraged and the athletes really only have time to deliver one knee before being separated by the referee to fight at a distance again.
Mike Musto (National Kickboxing Northwest / Trevor Smandych) squared off against Barry Knudsen (Guardian Gym / Diego Baltran). This was a great war that could have headlined any event in Canada. It was a rock 'em, sock 'em, bash it out affair. Knudsen delivered some excellent kicks including attempted Ax and spin kicks. The pressure and heavy hands of Musto would turn out to be the deciding factor in this bout. The punches of Musto that connected with the head of his foe were to be the most telling shots of this bout. Knudsen did a good job of distancing Musto and delivering kicks. The third round was where the fight was won with Mike Musto landing some good telling punches allowing him to win the Majority Decision in this bout. Great fight between two very talented athletes.

Undercard

Chris Fair (Mike Miles Muay Thai / Calgary) squared off against last minute replacement Mitchell Bergstrasser (SMO / Winnipeg). The bout was fought under Modified Muay Thai rules. Fair seemed to start off very slowly as Bergstrasser landed heavy cut kicks over and over. Fair seemed some what flustered and was having a hard time pulling the trigger during his fight. Bergstrasser kept good pressure on. Fair would hurt his opponent and then seemingly would let his foe recover. Bergstrasser would recover and then come back with some excellent technique. In a close fought bout, the split decision was given to Chris Fair in this bout.

Kristie Jillain (Mike Miles Muay Thai / Calgary) stepped into the ring against Erin Friesen (SMO / Steinbach). This bout was taken on very short notice by the Calgary while Friesen had been involved in an accident a week earlier. This was an exciting bout with both athletes bashing it out. Jillain was to dominate in the clinch but at the same time allow Friesen at times to scoot around to the side to make the clinch ineffective. Both athletes scored effectively on the outside with kicks and punches. The bout was won in the clinch with Jillain landing some strong knees. Kristi Jillain took the decision and the bout.

Adam Bronconnier (Mike Miles Muay Thai / Calgary) finally got his chance to fight Keith Giesbrecht (SMO, Steinbach). These two were slated to fight in Calgary on February 17th when because of their age, they were not allowed to fight in the venue. Now was the chance to make up for lost time. This was a good match up with the momentum rolling back and forth between the two athletes. Giesbrecht came out hard in the first round and this effort was to tax him for the rest of the fight. Bronconnier pressed the fight and landed some good punches. Both athletes gave it their best to the delight of the audience. The decision went to Adam Bronconnier.
