'2005 IKF NORTH AMERICAN CLASSIC' - (Orlando, Florida, USA)
August 19th, 20th, 21st 2005
Members of Team Miles had been discussing going to the IKF North American Classic in early 2005. The original
scheduled amount of athletes thinned as the event came closer and closer. A final head count of athletes (6 males
and 3 females) decided to attend the event with Coach Mike Miles. The team consistsed of Scott Clark, Jesse
Miles, Robin Finley, Phil Leier, Nathan Smandych, Brad Wall, Misty Sutherland,
Shelley Evans, and Sylvie Charbonneau. A total of 239 fighters was in attendance at the event from
across North America, and as such, it will go down on record as the largest Amateur Kickboxing tournament in North
America. Following are the results of the event involving Team Miles.

Flyweight - 112 lbs. & Below 50.00 kg & Below:

NORTH AMERICAN CHAMPION: Sylvie Charbonneau, Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Team
Miles defeated SECOND: Tammy Anderson, Indianapolis, Indiana, USA, Ray Sarkine, by split
decision 29-28, 29-28 & 28-29.
"It was a close fight, and the judges gave it to Sylvie" said Mike Miles.

NORTH AMERICAN CHAMPION: Misty Sutherland, Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Team Miles defeated
SECOND: Emily Pyle, Marquette, Michigan, USA, Kak Koonala, by TKO at 1:38 of round 1.
"Misty moved forward and did not give Emily a chance to breathe. Good fight and good win for Misty", said Mike
Miles.

Shelley EVans was scheduled to fight Jenna Castillo, however Mike Miles pulled her out of the event Saturday
morning as she had been sick and up all night with the two children (1 year and 2 years of age).
Shelley was very
disappointed but neither of us had any sleep the night before (coming to Orlando, and no sleep the first night we
arrived. I was dragging myself around so I know Shelley was tired and also sick so there was no point risking injury
when she was so far behind the eight ball", said Mike Miles.

Saturday - Prelims
Nathan Smandych defeated Mark Trillas, Weston, Florida, USA, John Wai, by unanimous decision 29-27, 29-27 & 30-26.
Nate looked awesome in this event. He listened well and fought smart winning his second North American Title of the
year!", said Mike Miles.

Phil Leier defeated Scott Mukaddam, Plantation, Florida, USA, Paul Danos, by unanimous decision 29-28, 29-28
& 30-27.
In bracket round 1 James Bleau defeated Liajdub Vang, Des Moines, Iowa, USA, Richard Yebunohu by unanimous decision
30-26 on all 3 judges cards.
In bracket round 1 Phil Leier defeated Lucas LaVoy, Marquette, Michigan, USA, Kak Koonala, by TKO at 1:35 of
round 2.

SECOND: Phil Leier, Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Team Miles, by unanimous decision 29-28 on all 3 judges
cards.
"Phil did great at this event but he fell into James battle plan. If Phil would have did what I asked and stayed
away from the clinch, I believe he would have won the bout!", said Mike Miles.
Light Middleweight - 153.1 lbs to 159 lbs. 69.6 kg - 72.3 kg:

NORTH AMERICAN CHAMPION: Brad Wall, Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada, Team Miles, defeated
SECOND: Sean Salemme, Wagram, North Carolina, USA, Amy Griswold & Wes Caudilli, by TKO at 49 seconds of round 2.
"Brad had a little ring rust but once he found his legs (so to speak), his experience brought him the win",
said Mike Miles.
Super Middleweight - 165.1 lbs to 172 lbs. - 75.1 kg - 78.2 kg:

unanimous decision 30-27 on all 3 judges cards.
In bracket round 2 Julius Grant defeated Robin Finley, Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Team Miles, by majority
decision 29-27, 30-26 & 28-28.
NORTH AMERICAN CHAMPION: Eloyhim Brent Sims, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, Nick Blomgren, won his title by forfeit when his
opponent Julius Grant had to leave early (Around 1:00 PM) for his plane flight back home. The IKF had asked Sims if
he wanted to fight Robin Finley instead. After discussing it with his manager (Kevin, Nick his trainer did
not make the trip) they declined the bout and accepted the forfeit win.
