NIGHT OF THUNDER PART XIV - 'MASTERS RETURN TO THE RING' - (Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, Canada) March 31st, 2007

Presented by Wolfgang Manicke.

Saturday March 31st, 2007 saw the return to the ring of 3 Time Professional World Muay Thai Champion Mike Miles in a Kickboxing fight to raise funds for charity. The event was called 'NIGHT OF THUNDER PART XIV' and took place in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. The charity benefiting from the bout was Prince Albert's Children's Haven.

Billed as the 'Masters Return to the Ring', the event was totally sold out with approximately 1000 people in attendance.

The event was co-sanctioned between the CMTC-A and COMAA
.
Mike Miles opponent was Wolfgang Manicke, a former WKC Canadian Kickboxing Champion. Both athletes were of the same age (approximately 50 years old). Miles weighed in at 200 lbs. while Manicke weighed in around 240 lbs. The bout opened with Manicke bouncing around and firing kicks at Miles who calmly waited and made the strikes miss. Unfortunately, Miles waited too long and as a result, the referee warned Miles and told him to start fighting (back). Miles delivered a fast head roundhouse kick which just missed Manicke's head. During the remainder of the first round, Miles put together some fast kicks and punches while Manicke fought back.

In the second round, Miles started pressing Manicke backwards and was getting into his fighting groove delivering some very solid shots. Low kicks and heavy head punches were scoring snapping Manicke's head backwards. Midway through the round, Miles landed a solid right body hook. Manicke was hurt and turned to the corner. The referee jumped in and assessed the situation, finally deciding to stop the bout.

The bout was awarded to Miles by the sanctioning body. Miles was also awarded a COMAA World Kickboxing Title. A surprised Miles stated, "I did this bout from my heart for children. It is time that Martial Artists who compete in combative sports do something positive for youth. The trophy and the title means nothing. Children mean everything!" Miles further stated..."A lot of kid's asked me for my autograph after the fight. That was great! My 4 year old daughter was very happy. She was also surprised when I gave her the trophy and she has been carrying it everywhere since! Her being proud of me really did my heart great. That is also a big reward!"

Asked if he would do this again, "Maybe even in Calgary... I might consider it. It would have to be for a worthy children's charity, something I believe in. I would consider taking some more lumps for kids!"

On the undercard...

Peter Arbeau (Calgary / Mike Miles) vs. Dan Huser (Prince Albert / Aurora Kickboxing)
A very exciting Kickboxing rules bout. Huser pressed in the beginning of the bout while Arbeau hit and moved. As the bout progressed, Huser started to tire a little bit and Arbeau used his reach to score points and win the bout by unanimous decision.

Hung Lam (Calgary / Mike Miles) vs. Adam Pernell (Wilkie / Ares Kickboxing)
A modified Muay Thai bout between 3 first timers in the ring. The shorter Lam did a good job of making Pernell miss at times. However in the final round, Lam did not counter enough and the decision went to Pernell. Good skills demonstrated by both athletes.

Melanie Goulet (Calgary / Mike Miles) vs. Anna Mravcak (Regina / Spirit of the Dragon)
Goulet's original opponent pulled out, leaving Mravcak to step in. The bout turned into an exhibition. The girls put on a great exhibition demonstrating good kicks and punches under Kickboxing rules.
