'NITE OF THUNDER PART VII' - (Prince Albert,
Saskatchewan, Canada) October 19th, 2002
Wolfgang and Connie Manicke hosted another very successful Kickboxing event
in Prince Albert on the October 19th weekend. The event was sold-out, a true testiment to the hard work and dedication
the two have possessed since day one. All the bouts were contested under Kickboxing (low kick) rules.
The main event of the show featured Richard "Da Blitz" Linklater (Aurora/Prince Albert) against Wes
Cameron (Iron Fist/Saskatoon). Linklater used his skills and desire (plus some of his unorthodox technique) to thoroughly
frustrate and stop Cameron and any of his desires to win this bout in his tracks. Linklater, who had the hometown crowd
screaming their approval opened the bout in such a way to smother and never allow Cameron to get into his game plan.
Linklater looked good and used a surprising amount of diverse techniques to win the bout. A great bout for Linklater.
The undercard featured the following bouts and results:
- Superlightweight division: Karen Oliver (Scheer/Saskatoon) stepped into the ring against a younger Leslie
Rudolph (Aurora/Prince Albert). Randolph, was to surprise all, including her opponent by pulling
of a very close split decision win over Oliver. A very good bout which had the crowd on its feet.
- Cruiserweight division: Roxanne Hoppe (AKK/Nipawin) battled against Shannon Sanderson (Aurora/Prince
Albert) in a bout that saw the action see-saw back and forth between the two athletes. Hoppe was to win the bout by an
unanimous decision.
- Supermiddleweight division: Jon Leicht (Iron Fist/Saskatoon) battled in an outright war against Bryan
Campbell (Mike Miles Muay Thai/Calgary). The awkward Leicht had the style and the desire that had Campbell fall short in the win
department. Leicht does not know how to fight very well moving backwards, but he made it very hard for Campbell to take
advantage of this trait. Campbell was caught many times and stopped in midstream by blows as he tried to force the action.
Leicht, awkward style or not has superb fighting heart and good skills in the ring. Leicht won the bout by unanimous decision
and has kept his undefeated winning steak in tact.
- Supermiddlewieght division: Novice Conrad Corbiere (Scheer/Saskatoon) looked strong against David
Bennett (Aurora/Prince Albert). In fact his right hand was to send his foe to the canvas 3 times in one round forcing
the bout to be stopped at 53 seconds of the first round. Corbiere hits hard and delivers a very strong right hand.
- Heavyweight division: Emil Nikkari (Spirit of the Dragon/Regina) warred with Jesse Foster
(Mike Miles Muay Thai/Calgary). The shorter Nikkari tried to take the fight to Foster who in turn would hit and intercept but many
times, also find himself off balance from the pressure. When Foster was to watch his foe and deliver strikes, he scored
with very strong blows that stopped Nikkari in his tracks. When Foster was to miss and lose sight of his foe, Nikkari
would swarm in and launch powerful strikes trying to stop Foster. Foster won the bout by unanimous decision.
- Lightweight division: Jessica Reid (Aurora/Leask) looked great in her bout against Meghan Aebig
(Mike Miles Muay Thai/Calgary). Aebig had a tough time dealing with her foe's pressure. Aebig would score more telling blows with her
legs while Reid would score with good punches and kicks behind a constant movement forward of pressure. Reid won the bout
by unanimous decision.
- Juniorsuperfeatherweight division: Junior Landon Brodner (Spirit of the Dragon/Regina) battled with
Shawn Silver (Aurora/PA). Brodner was to win the bout by unanimous decision.
- Juniorsuperflyweight division: Junior Ryan Brodner (Spirit of the Dragon/Regina) warred with Anthony
Feltham (Aurora/PA). Brodner won the bout by unanimous decision.
- Featherweight division: Karma Schopp (Aurora/Prince Albert) stepped into the ring against Jodie Cuff
(National/Edmonton). The first round had Schopp moving forward very aggressively and catching her foe with strong blows.
In the second round, this was to start to change. Cuff started applying the pressure and started scoring higher numbers
with her consistent aggression. In the third round, Cuff pressured Schopp backwards with a brutal and relentless body
attack. Midway through the round Schopp could take no more and the bout was stopped. Cuff won by third round TKO.
- Middleweight division: Jason Lamond (Iron Fist/Saskatoon) and Chris Rolston (National/Edmonton)
displayed two completely different styles of fighting to the audience. Lamond was definitely more powerful and was setting
his goals on knocking his foe out. Rolston took a hit and move approach which was to fluster Lamond at times. Rolston would
get tagged from time to time but the shear number of blows he was throwing gave him the fight by an unanimous decision.
- Superlightheavyweight division: Brett Graham (Aurora/Saskatoon) and Jason Primmer (Mike Miles Muay Thai/Calgary)
met each other in the ring for a second time. Primmer barely pulled out a win in their first encounter. Primmer was
originally to face an opponent from a different gym but the athlete pulled out. Graham decided he wanted revenge and
wanted another shot at Primmer. Primmer was to dominate the first round with hard an accurate cut kicks. But in the
second round, Graham was to come out fast and furious to try and pressure the Calgarian. At the end of the contest,
Primmer was to pull out a split decision.
- Juniorwelterweight division: Juniors Brad Campbell (Aurora/Shellbrook) and Levi Savage (AKK/Tisdale)
battled their hearts out to a much appreciative audience to open the event. Savage was to take the bout by an unanimous decision.
The Manicke's plan another big fight event in early 2003. Stay tuned for more!
