'NITE OF THUNDER PART VIII' - (Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, Canada) April 5th, 2003

On Saturday April 5th, five athletes from Mike Miles Muay Thai in Calgary (coach - Mr. Mike Miles) as well as three athletes from Mike Miles National Kickboxing & Muay Thai in Edmonton (coach - Mr. Steve Bergeron) competed at the "Nite of Thunder Part 8" in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan.

The event was sold out for the promoter and provided the spectators with 10 action packed and high quality bouts.

The results of the event featuring the National athletes were as follows:

Main Event - 5 rounds of 3 minutes / Canadian Kickboxing Title
Chris 'The Machine Gun' Rolsten (Edmonton National / Bergeron) squared off against Richard 'Da Blitz' Linklater (Prince Albert Aurora / Manicke). This was a crowd favorite featuring the hometown athlete Linklater pulling of some very successful and unorthodox technique while Rolsten looked slick and fast in his fight plan. Rolsten was to open the bout with heavy body shots and at times seemed to throw caution to the wind to try and knock out Linklater. On the other hand Linklater would appear hurt from some of the body punches he took and then all of a sudden he would come back with good roundhouse kicks and spinning kicks. The bout see-sawed back and forth with Rolsten winning the bout and the title by a split decision.

Undercard Results:

Bryan Campbell (Calgary / Mike Miles Muay Thai) squared off against the heavy handed Conrad Corbiere (Scheer's Saskatoon / Scheer's) in a Kickboxing rules bout. As the bout opened Corbiere threw caution to the wind and waded in throwing heavy leather and trying to keep his perfect knockout record in tact. Campbell was to survive the onslaught by taking the majority of the blows on the arms. Campbell would block the heavy shots but his body would still be violently thrown to the side from each concussive blow. By round three Campbell was trying to make headway to take the bout but he was relying too heavily on single shots which Corbiere would avoid and then counter with heavy shots. Campbell was far more successful in the kick department while Corbiere was more successful in the punch department. Corbiere was to take the fight by unanimous decision.

Jackson Vasicek (Edmonton National / Bergeron) battled against Trent Wendell (Karate Do Medicine Hat / Morgan). The two athletes went at it quite strongly with Vasicek doing enough to win the bout by unanimous decision under Kickboxing rules.

Jason Cutbill (Calgary / Mike Miles Muay Thai) stepped into the ring for the first time against Darrell 'The Wizard' Paetsch (Prince Albert Aurora / Manicke). This bout was fought under Kickboxing rules. Paetsch was the shorter of the two athletes and he had the daunting task of trying to get close and land on Cutbill. Cutbill looked very calm and composed in this bout taking his time to make his punches and kicks work. By the middle of the first round Cutbill found the key to the bout and he started delivering vicious leg kicks. Paetsch took about four of the blows. On the final low kick just before the bell sounded, Cutbill doubled up on a low kick that hurt Paetsch. The Prince Albert athlete went down at the bell ending the first round and could not continue with the bout. Cutbill won the bout by first round TKO.

Darren Robson (Calgary / Mike Miles Muay Thai) squared off against Kim Morris (Karate Do Medicine Hat / Morgan) for a Canadian Superfeatherweight Muay Thai Title. This was a very entertaining bout with both athletes showing the best they had during this bout. Robson's battle plan was followed to the 't' while Morris tried to adapt his plan to what Robson was doing. The first round was to go to Morris who landed a few kicks to Robson who bided his time and watched what his opponent was trying to do. By round two, the taller Robson kept Morris at bay with long kicks and when Morris would try and come in, Robson would fall into the clinch and deliver strong effective knees. Round three was a repeat of round two. In round four Morris would resort to body punches when Robson would clinch. Robson countered by delivering crisp head punches which would bring Morris' hands back up and set Robson up for the knee. In the final round Morris came forward attempting a strong work ethic trying to land his punches while Robson would resort to the clinch and knee. The bout was awarded unanimously to Robson who walked home with the Canadian Title.

Daymon Madoche (Edmonton National / Bergeron) squared off against Harrison 'Lionheart' Christianson (Prince Albert Aurora / Manicke) in a Kickboxing rules bout. Madoche seemed somewhat dwarfed by the taller Christianson. Madoche was aggressive and trying to land the telling blows but he could not find his range in this bout. Christianson shook Madoche for several standing eight counts. Midway through the third round, a hard shot landed on a stunned Madoche and the bout was stopped in favor of the winner Christianson.

Melissa McKeith (Calgary / Mike Miles Muay Thai) battled against Lindsay 'Stone Cold' Rudolph (Prince Albert Aurora / Manicke) in a three round Kickboxing rules bout. As the bout opened Rudolph bore forward and walked through any kind of offense that McKeith tried to mount. McKeith almost looked like a fly being swatted away by Rudolph. In the second round McKeith started to put up a better defense using straight punches to give Rudolph a standing eight count in the second. In the third round McKeith persisted in her counter shots and pressure giving Rudolph another standing eight count and then finally stopping her foe midway through the third and final round. McKeith was the winner by third round TKO.

Peter Arbeau (Calgary / Mike Miles Muay Thai) stepped into the ring against Ryan 'Barracuda' Smith (Prince Albert Aurora / Manicke). This was a very good first fight for both athletes. Arbeau was to take the fight and the upper hand in the bout using straight punches and good body kicks. Smith was to try and pressure Arbeau but by the third round, the body kicks had slowed Smith down somewhat and Arbeau was to win the bout by unanimous decision.
