'RAGE IN THE RING VI' - ANGER MANAGEMENT - (Lethbridge,
Alberta, Canada) October 28th, 2006
Sanctioned by the Canadian Muay Thai Council - Amateur..
This event was originally slated to feature 3 Canadian athletes battling against 3 top ranked athletes from
Spain. The Main Event was to feature Brad Wall (who was also co-promoter of this event) against Spain's
Javier Maiz. With the arrival of his new baby, and other factors, Mr. Wall was to become ill and have to
postpone this match. This would have been a very tough bout as Maiz is viewed as the strongest of the three athletes
by Spanish Coach Chinto Mordillo Morante. This bout is tentatively scheduled for early 2007 and what a fight
this will be. The Semi-Main Events were to feature Scott Clark battling against Juan Carlos Muntane Fernandez
and Jesse Miles battling against Carlos Laloba. Miles was also having to pull out due to an unhealed
injury still being a plague to him since several fights before.
The new look of the fights included the following match ups: Scott Clark against Juan Carlos Muntane
Fernandez and Jason Cutbill stepping up to the bat to battle Carlos Laloba for team-mate Miles.
The results were as follows:
Scott 'Pitbull' Clark lived up to his nickname. Juan Carlos Muntane Fernandez looked very strong
and physically thicker than Clark. Having witnessed the fight between Cutbill and Laloba, it was expected that
Fernandez would pressure the Canadian and try to set up a blistering work rate. What was expected and what happened
during this bout were as different as night and day. As soon as the bout opened, Fernandez looked like he was going
to rely on power. It appeared that power was possibly to be used to intimidate Clark. Fernandez tried to land some
very heavy low kicks but Clark was either to make him miss, or the Canadian would block and answer. Clark used
excellent combinations moving from punches, to kicks, to elbows, to knees to force the Spanish athlete back to the
ropes. Clark had the Spanish athlete backing up quickly. The combinations served to confuse Fernandez who would
resort to the clinch when on the ropes. Clark proved to be stronger than the Spanish athlete in the clinch landing
some very heavy knees and then dumping Fernandez to the canvas several times as well. In round two, Clark was to
further tenaciously pressure Fernandez to the ropes. A scorching right hand shook the Spanish athlete. Clark pounced
and went into the clinch. several knees to the body landed and Clark followed with a knee to the head which dropped
Fernandez for the count. At 58 seconds of the first round, Scott Clark was declared the winner by TKO.
Scott Clark was to win the Fighter of the Night Trophy for the event.
Jason 'The Surgeon' Cutbill squared off against Spain's Carlos Laloba. Both athletes performed
very impressive Ram Muay's even though there was no fight music available. By watching both ceremonies, it was
evident both had good Muay Thai skills. As the bout opened, Laloba started off quickly and set up a hard work rate.
Cutbill was to let the first round slide while he figured out his opponent. In the second round, Laloba continued
with the high work rate and very impressive clinch skills and countering skills. For every shot that Cutbill landed,
Laloba would answer with 2. This seemed to frustrate Cutbill who still had not stepped up his own work rate and
tried to impose his dominance in the ring. In rounds 3 and 4, Lalboa kept coming forward with a hard work rate and
started catching Cutbill with some good shots while in close. Cutbill seemed out of his game here and appeared tired.
In both rounds during the clinch, he was tossed to the ground by the Spanish athlete. In the final round, Cutbill
came alive for a few moments but Laloba kept up a blistering work rate and landed the more effective blows while
simultaneously moving forward. At the end of the bout both showed great sportsmanship. Carlos Laloba was to
win the fight by unanimous decision demonstrating some excellent Muay Thai skills. Though Cutbill looked flat, he
took the loss in stride and chalked up the bout to experience. Congratulations to Carlos Laloba and Team Spain!
