"SASKATCHEWAN SILVER BELTS - KICKBOXING WARS" - (Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, Canada) April 13th, 2002
Promoters Wolfgang & Connie Manicke hosted the
Saskatchewan Silver Belts in Prince Albert. The event was run very smoothly with
a crowd of around 400 people in attendance. The winners of each bout was the recipient
of a beautiful 2002 Saskatchewan Silver Belt for their performance. This made for some
very fast and furious competition as the athletes battled for the right to the title (and the belt) for 2002.
The results of the event are as follows:
Main Event - WKA Western Canadian Women’s Superflyweight Kickboxing Title
- Carla Hopkins (Karate-Do & Kickboxing Academy - Medicine Hat) defeated
Jessica Reid (Aurora Kickboxing - Leask) by unanimous decision. A good fight which
had some problems with Hopkins bleeding a little too much from the nose. Other than this, the athletes
showed great sporting heart and desire.
Bout 9
Derrick Chu (Iron Fist Kickboxing - Saskatoon) defeated Allistair
Middleton (Mike Miles Muay Thai - Calgary). This bout was a fast paced war
with each athlete throwing ‘bombs’ meant to put the other athlete to sleep. Middleton connected with
several heavy punches which stood Chu up and Chu retaliated with several punches which broke
Middleton’s nose. Chu won the bout very quickly by a first round TKO.
Bout 8
BR>Suzy Huber (Iron Fist Kickboxing - Saskatoon) defeated Hillary Ibbott
(Spirit of the Dragon Kickboxing - Regina) by a split decision.
Bout 7
Dave Kormish (Scheer’s Martial Arts - Saskatoon) stepped into the ring against
Dave Anderson (Spirit of the Dragon Kickboxing - Regina). This was a short fight with
Kormish landing a heavy kick to the face of Anderson who could not make the count.
Bout 6
Kevin Brakefield (Mike Miles Muay Thai - Calgary) stepped in and
had a war with Brett Graham (Aurora Kickboxing - Saskatoon). This was a good fight
with Brakefield forcing the action while Graham threw some very strong and determined
combinations. Brakefield won the decision.
Bout 5
Roxanne Hoppe (Aurora Kickboxing - Nipawin) battled against Shannon
Sanderson (Aurora Kickboxing - Leask). This was a very close fight with Hoppe winning by
a split decision. By sheer audience participation (vocal support) during the evening, this was the bout of
the night.
Bout 4
Becky Lester (Iron Fist Kickboxing - Saskatoon) had a war with Kari
Leibel ( Spirit of the Dragon Kickboxing - Regina). Though Lester won the bout by
unanimous decision, Leibel put up a great fight!
Bout 3
Phil Leier (Mike Miles Muay Thai - Calgary) stepped into the ring
against Lyle Twardzik (Aurora Kickboxing - Canwood). Twardzik has a background in
boxing and Leier went to work using his high and low kicks to confuse Twardzik. Leier won by second
round TKO.
Bout 2
Kurt Krueger (Iron Fist Kickboxing - Saskatoon) stepped into the ring against
Jordan Bue (Aurora Kickboxing - Saskatoon). This was a rock ‘em - sock ‘em battle
with Krueger coming out on top and winning the bout by a second round TKO.
Bout 1
Persami Gounder (Mike Miles Muay Thai - Calgary) squared off
against Kim Miller (Aurora Kickboxing - Tisdale). Gounder was fast and efficient with
Miller who at times seemed to be a little intimidated, but still gave a good defense at his opponent.
Gounder won the bout by TKO.
