SELECTED PREVIOUS EVENTS 2005

DAMAGE # 1 - (Steinbach, Manitoba, Canada) June 4th, 2005

Presented by Sincy Outhaivong.

This was a very entertaining card, which had the crowd wanting more. Some of the loudest fans in Western Canada for sure. Roughly 350 fans came out to support the event promoted by Sincy Outhaivong and SMO Muay Thai Gym.

The first 2 bouts of the evening were children's matches.

Bout 1 - Travis Giesbrecht (SMO, Steinbach) vs. Thane Robinson (Triumph, Selkirk)
Both of these youngsters looked great Travis was a little taller and more aggressive but Thane kept answering back punch for punch and kick for kick. The bout was a draw.

Bout 2 - Cole Outhaivong (SMO, Steinbach) vs. Elijah Robinson (Triumph, Selkirk)
This was another entertaining bout with two future stars. These 8 year olds had a great time in their bout. It was draw.

Bout 3 - Jordan Park (SMO, Steinbach) vs. Matt Kolmatski (Triumph, Selkirk)
Unfortunately the week leading up the fight Jordan's brother tragically passed away. The two athletes entered the ring and touched gloved in friendship as they rang the bell. The crowd stood and gave moment of silence for Jordan and the Park family.

Bout 4 - Mark Mac Rae (Triumph, Selkirk) vs. Michael Musto (Calgary National)- Modified Muay Thai 3 x 2 min.
Michael looked calm and collected as he landed crisp combinations flowing from punches to cut kicks. Mark didn't seem to get much of a chance to show his skills as Michael quickly got Mark pinned in the corner landing a high lead leg roundhouse kick to Mark's head that ended the bout. Michael Musto winner by 1st round TKO.

Bout 5 - Katie Kroeker (SMO, Steinbach) vs. Ashley Samborski (Triumph, Selkirk)- Kickboxing 3 x 2min.
Ashley pressed the fight throwing a combination of kicks and punches that had Katie moving backwards through out the round. Eventually the ref felt Katiehad enough and stopped the bout, Ashley was the winner 1st round TKO.

Bout 6 - Maleen Mendis (SMO, Steinbach) vs. Jackie Robinson (Triumph, Selkirk)- 3 x 2min kickboxing.
Exhibition Bout- Jackie looked pretty aggressive, keeping Maleen back peddling the entire bout. Maleen would throw punches and kicks and Jackie would quickly answer with punches and kicks. I'm not sure many people even realized it was an exhibition with the amount of action in this bout.

Bout 7 - Abe Neufeld (SMO, Steinbach) vs. Jamie Jahnke (Muringsung, Regina)- Kickboxing 3 x 2min.
Close rematch between two talented up and coming athletes. Abe would throw nice hooks and cut kicks while Jamie used his reach to throw teeps and straight punches. This is the second time these two have meet, the time before was also a war. Credit to both athletes as they havereally improved over the past year. In the end Jamie was awarded an unanimous decision.

Bout 8 - Lisa Kehler (SM0, Steinbach) vs. Cathy Kloppenburg (PFA, Lethbridge) Kickboxing 3 x 2min.
This was a close round, Cathy and Lisa battled back and forth through out. Lisa opened up the second round landing a high roundhouse kick; Cathy came back with a flurry of punches that had the ref administer the count. The third was similar to the first round with both athletes trading punches and kicks. Near the end of the third round Cathy landed aa series of punches that looked as if it was going to stop Lisa, but this was not to be the case as Lisa answered with a combination of her own. The bell finally stopped this three round battle and Lisa was awarded the decision. Good fight Ladies!

Bout 9 - Joel Burghart (SMO, Steinbach) vs. Caesar Valmilla (Muringsung, Regina) 3 x 2min. kickboxing.
This was originally scheduled to be between John Goertzen and Caesar, but Joel stepped in instead. Joel weighed in at 170 while Caesar weighed in at 183lbs. Caesar wasted no time starting the bout off with heavy cut kicks and punches. Joel would counter back with heavy punches of his own. In the second Caesar pressed Joel in to the corner and unleashes a flurry of punches that put Joel down. The winner Caesar by second TKO.

Bout 10 - Etienne Henzel (SMO, Steinbach) vs. Alvin Pritchard (World Kickboxing, Selkirk) Modified Muay Thai fight.
Etienne Henzel used his height and reach to dominate the first round with excellent punches and kicks. At the beginning of the second round Etienne caught one of Alvin's kick's and Alvin partially fell through the ropes. Etienne picked up the pace landing some powerful punches and straight knees that looked like they could have ended the fight. The third round started off similar to the 1st and second rounds with Etienne pressing the fight landing combinations at will. Near the end of the third round Alvin caught Etienne with a cross. Etienne shook his fist hitting himself in the face as to mock Alvin's power. Alvin didn't let that stop him he unleashed a 7-8-punch combo that left Etienne out cold, much to everyone's surprise. (Winner by KO Alvin.)

Bout 11 - Hector Deuck (SMO, Steinbach) vs. Dusty Kramps (National, Calgary)- 3 x 2 min Kickboxing.
Dusty seemed to take the first round landing heavy cut kicks and punches to the body. In the second both athletes traded blow for blow. Near the end of the round the fighters seemed to lose steam from the high pace. Dusty stepped back with his hands down and Hector threw a rear roundhouse, which dropped Dusty. The crowd rose to its feet for what looked like a sure KO. Dusty however jumped up looking a little shaky, never the less he wanted to continue. To everyone's amazement he continued to fight. Finally the bell range, the crowd still on it's feet from all the action began to chant HECTOR, HECTOR!!! Dusty and Hector came out in the third throwing everything but the kitchen sink back and forth, blow for blow. Finally the fight ended. What a war! The ref raised both fighters hands, DRAW! Oddly enough the fans began chanting as the fighters left the ring and the decision was changed to Hector by Un. Dec.!! It was a little confusing for the coaches, athletes and fans to understand why the decision was changed.

Bout 12 - The Main Event - Stefan Deurksen (SMO, Steinbach) vs. Breydin South (Muringsung, Regina)- Modified Muay Thai.
This was built up to be a war from the get go. As Breydin did his Ram Muay, the crowd booed, chanting Stefan name of their local hero. The fighters meet in the center of the ring touching gloves, with tension so thick it sent shivers down the viewers spines. Stefan landed a heavy cross that snapped Breydin's head back to open the bout. Breydin tensed up tacking a step back. Stefan pressed forward throwing a flurry of punches.Breydin weaved through the combo and found himself in the clinch. He began to unload a series of straight knees, which would have dropped most fighters. Stefan on the other handseemed unfamiliar with the clinch.Back out of clinching rangeStefan tried to throw some heavy leather. Breydin would catch the punches and answer with punches and kicks of his own.Through out the first round it seemed, as Stefan wanted to box while Breydin seemed to counter and end up in the clinch. When the round ended, Stefan surprisinglylooked unblemished from the hard knees.
The second roundBreydin opened up with a beautiful jumping knee that sent Stefan back to the corner. From then on Stefan seemed to try and tackle Breydin and push him out of the clinch. The harder Stefan tried to keep the fight at long range the easier it seemed forSouth toease into the clinch. South landed suchpowerful knees to Deurksen's upper chest thatsome the audience members covered up from the pain.
In the third it was much of the same with Breydin picking up the pace flowing from punches, cut kicks to knee after knee in the clinch. Wow, everyone was more or less amazed that Stefan could stand and take so such punishment. Deurksen is one toughathlete and Breydin looked like a very experienced Thai boxer. Breydin won by Unanimous Decision. Look out for both athletes as they have bright futures ahead of them.

Great Card Sincy Outhaivong and SMO Gym. Also special thanks to the CMTC-A Manitoba for supplying the officials. The crowd really enjoyed the event as did all the athlete's and coaches!
