June 21st, 2003
Venue-Westerner Prairie Pavillion Over 500 in attendance Promoter - Lyle Cheney
The event opened with 2 exhibition matches.
Bout 1: Vanessa Albers stepped into the ring with Christy Beach.
Bout 2: In the second opening bout of the evening, Darcy Stromsmoe squared off against Chris
Kunnel.
The remainder of the event featured full out fights.
Bout 3: The first official bout of the evening was between Jennarene Spicer 140 lbs. (Cheney's)
against Cathy Charles 140 lbs. (Seven Stars)
Unanimous 3 round decision for Spicer. Charles fought hard but appeared to be worn down by the stronger kicks of
Spicer who slightly dominated all the rounds.
Bout 4: Scott Douglas 150 lbs. (Cheney's) battled against Jordan Lannon 150 lbs. (Frank Lee)
The obviously much more experienced Lannon was pressing the match from the start. Douglas fought back hard
ending the first round strong. The second round saw Lannon press Douglas to the ropes and throw a strong cut kick to
the inside of Douglas' knee. The bout was stopped due to an accidental foul. Going to the score cards, the bout was
awarded to Lannon.
Bout 5: Josh Huber 200 lbs. (Cheney's) vs Matthew Scott 200 lbs. (Flaman)
Both fighters came out swinging hard. Being new and wild they stood toe to toe and punched it out. After both
fighters weathered some nasty punches, Huber was caught by a vicious right and given an 8 count. Huber was badly cut
above the left eye and the corner man threw in the towel at 1:42 of round 1.
Bout 6: Darcy Stromsmoe (Cheney's) again graciously volunteered to exhibition with Nolan
Herbert (Lee's) whose opponent was injured.
Bout 7: Craig Douglas 190 lbs. (Cheney's) vs. Dave Robson 195 lbs. (Seven Stars)
At stake was the WKA Western Canadian Supercruiserweight Muay Thai Title. This fight turned into a wrestling
match. Both fighters started out aggressive and remained so throughout. Every time Douglas would begin to attack,
Robson would slip under his jab and hold him in an attempt to knee. Douglas was awarded the win by split decision.
Bout 8: Randi McRobbie 130 lbs. (Cheney) vs. Leslie Rudolph 130 lbs. (Aurora)
Rudolph came out strong and caught McRobbie with a four punch combination sending her to the canvas. Rudolph was
awarded the win by TKO at 48 seconds of the first round.
Bout 9: Richard Linklater 166 lbs. (Aurora) vs. Brian Hartwick 170 lbs. (Bonde)
Hartwick being the much taller of the two pressed the fight for the full three rounds but could not manage to do
much damage to his opponent. Linklater fought very well but was frustrated by Hartwick's reach. The bout was awarded
to hartwick by unanimous decision.
Bout 10: Ryan Ashworth 140 lbs. (Aurora) vs. Mark Fabris 140 lbs. (Seven Stars)
Although both fighters were inexperienced they started out strong and remained so throughout the entire bout.
Ashworth was the more powerful of the two and pressed the fight. In round two, Ashworth connected with a series of
punches resulting in an eight count for Fabris. The match was awarded to Ashworth by unanimous decision.
Bout 11 - Main Event: Luke Spicer 200 lbs. (Cheney's) vs. Shane Andreesen 205 lbs. (Lestage)
The bout began with Spicer and Andreesen both exchanging heavy punches. Immediately it was apparent that Andreesen
possessed extremely strong punching power. Although Andreesen was the more powerful of the two, Spicer had many more
weapons at his disposal. Every time Andreesen would land a blow, Spicer would answer with two or three. In the first
three rounds, Spicer's cut kicks began to take their toll on Andreesen but just when it looked as if Andreesen was
in trouble he would fire back with devastating right hands and left hooks. Half way through round four, Andreesen
landed a devastating combination on Spicer and dropped him to the canvas. Spicer got up on eight and seemed to have
a renewed anger coming back with kick and punch combinations that had Andreesen in trouble at the end of round four.
In round five Spicer really turned it on and continued to pound Andreesen to the legs and head causing Andreesen to
be given an 8 count as well. Andressen showed true heart in the fact that even when he was taking a barrage of
punches and kicks he would still manage to unload punches that could have easily ended the fight. The bout was
awarded to Spicer by unanimous decision.
