SUPERFIGHTS # 14 (Red Deer, Alberta) - June 24th, 2006

Promoted by Lyle Cheney and sanctioned by the CMTC-A.

This sold out event featured no title fights, but included some incredible action that the audience appreciated. There were some modified Muay Thai and Kickboxing bouts. Superfights ia always a great card, showcasing Red Deer's local Kickboxing and Muay Thai fighters. Hats off to promoter Lyle Cheney and the volunteers for another great show for the 500 fight fans in attendance! All fights were 3 X 2 minute rounds.

Dan Chambers 215 lbs. (CMC Lethbridge) vs. Chris Molloy (Red Deer) - Kickboxing rules
Superheavyweights always come out swinging and this bout was no different. Early in the round Dan caught Chris with a right hook to the head causing a standing eight count. At 1:56 of the first round Dan dropped Chris to the mat with an uppercut to win by TKO.

Kim Nicholson 120 lbs. (Double Dragon, Winnipeg) vs. Stephanie Essensa (Arashi-Do, Red Deer) - Kickboxing rules
Stephanie came out strong snapping back Kim's head with her jab cross combination and then began to work over the ribs with her roundhouses. Kim tried to pick up the pace and became more aggressive in the second and third rounds but Stephanie continued to beat Kim to the punch (and kick) for the win by unanimous decison.

Michelle Easton 145 lbs. (Mike Miles Muay Thai) squared off against Cei-anna Pleasants (Cheney’s) - Kickboxing rules
This was a good war with both athletes showing desire. A tough fight for both girls as they came to fight trading combinations and hard cut kicks for all three rounds. Cei-Anna took round one by being more aggressive. In round two Michelle picked up the pace and with ten seconds left in the third round she rocked Cei-Anna with a punch making her stumble back. Easton was to pull off the decision in this bout.

Nathan Lenet 150 lbs. (National Kickboxing Northwest) stepped into the ring against Chris Zicarelli (Frank Lee’s) in a scheduled Kickboxing match.
Looking like a professional, Nathan used his height and reach advantage picking and landing his punches and kicks throughout all three rounds. Chris kept coming but just couldn't get inside on Nathan to land any decent scoring shots. Lenet was to win this bout by unanimous decision.

Mike Roberts 140 lbs. (Mike Miles Muay Thai) battled against Jesse Fox (Arashi-Do, Edmonton) in a modified Muay Thai rules bout.
A very exciting match to watch as the fighters traded punches and kick combinations. However, it was Mike's knees that was the deciding factor for this bout as he dominated Jesse each time they fell into the clinch. Unable to break the clinch, Jesse would try to back out only to get caght with more knees. Roberts was more effective in the clinch dumping Fox to the ground multiple times during the bout. The result was a split decision to Roberts.

Jacquline Monpetite 135 lbs. (Frank Lee's) vs. Teri Treiber (Cheney's, Red Deer) - Kickboxing rules
Teri showed her traditional training as she threw nice high roundhouses but bounced around with her hands down. Jecquline looked like a kickboxer and worked her body to the head combinations to outscore Teri in the first round. Round two started with both fighters slugging it out. However, three nice jab cross combinations by Jacquline snapped Teri's head back and an overhand right rocked her. Round three saw Jacquline continue to dominate over Teri but she just could not put her away. The winner by unanimous decision was Jacquline Monpetite.

In a battle of the fairer sex, Angela Merzib 145 lbs. (Mike Miles Muay Thai) stepped into the ring against Angel Anderson (Double Dragon) - Kickboxing rules
. This bout had the audience on the edges of their seats. Merzib was to spend the whole battle with Anderson in her face slugging away. The sheer determination and inability for Merzib to sidestep left her pretty banged up from the slugfest. During the third round, Merzib started working on angling but Anderson just kept coming. The result was an unanimous decision for Anderson under Kickboxing rules.

Chris Lafantaisie (Black Dragon) did his father proud in his Kickboxing rules match. He squared off against Brent Smith (Canadian Martial Arts Centre, Lethbridge).
The height difference was significant and Lafantaisie used the distance to work his straight punches. Smith took a straight right trying to get close to his opponent and the bout was stopped by a 1st round TKO.

Vladimir Quidjada 175 lbs. (Seven Stars, Red Deer) stepped into the ring against Mike Brunner (Cheney's, Red Deer) - Modified Muay Thai
Again it was the clinch that determined the outcome of this fight. Round one, both fighters came out strong. Vladimir landed a nice shot while Mike fired in roundhouses to the body. Eventually both athletes fell into the clinch while Mike tried breaking it while landing punches in close. Round two saw Vladimir start to dominate Mike in the clinch. he continued to do so throughout the third round for the win by unanimous decision.

As usual promoter Lyle Cheney delivered a top notch card featuring talented amateurs.
