ULTIMATE COMBAT EXPERIENCE 'ST. PATRICK'S DAY BASH' - (Salt Lake City, Utah, USA) March 17th, 2007

The Ultimate Combat Experience (UCE) presented the St. Patrick's Day Bash on Saturday March 17th, 2007 in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA. The event featured Team USA vs. Team Canada.

The sold out event featured MMA and Modified Muay Thai Rules bouts. 4 athletes from Canada attended the event. Three amateur Muay Thai athletes from Mike Miles Muay Thai & Kickboxing Ltd. and one athlete from Progressive Fighting Academy attended the event representing Canada. All the bouts were contested in an octagon. Two of the Candian athletes, Jesse Miles and Nate Smandych took their respective bouts on less than two weeks notice.

The fight results were as follows:

Amateur Muay Thai - Modified Rules (no elbow attacks, no knee attacks to the head) - 3 rounds of 2 minutes

'Nasty' Nate Smandych (Mike Miles Muay Thai / Calgary, Canada) squared off with Oliver Bradstreet (Salt Lake City, Utah), a talented wrestler with plenty of MMA experience (approximately 27 fights). The majority of this bout took place with both fighters pinned against the cage. Oliver would resort to charging at Nate and forcing the Canadian into it and keeping him there. While in the clinch, Nate would dominate with his knees until he was pinned against the cage. At times, the referee let the inactive clinches go on for too long with both athletes wrestling against the cage. Nate dominated on the outside with hard cut kicks, several which really took Oliver by surprise, throwing him off balance and spinning him around. But Oliver was not to back down as he charged in continually with heavy punching bombs. After being pinned to the cage too many times, Nate began using his teeps and high roundhouse kicks to keep off Oliver away from trying to push him to the cage. Nate dropped Oliver with a roundhouse kick to the head. Oliver received several standing eight counts throughout this fight. Nate was tenacious, trying to finish off his opponent with fast combos and well placed knees and kicks but Oliver was able to weather the storm. The Canadian 'Nasty' Nate Smandych walked away with the win by unanimous decision.

Jesse 'Smiles' Miles (Mike Miles Muay Thai / Calgary, Alberta) teed off against the very game Jeff Moody (Jeremy Horn / Salt Lake City, Utah). Jeff was the hometown favorite, with both some Kickboxing and MMA fight experience (approximately 15 fights). Right off the bat, it was obvious that both fighters possessed tons of power in their shots, as both would crash in with huge bombs that would have put the other to sleep if they had connected. Early on, Jeff landed a couple of vicious leg kicks to Jesse's lead leg. Jesse nodded, acknowledging the power of the kicks, and began to pick up the intensity using hard combinations often initiated by a devastating overhand right. Jeff would answer with hard combos of his own, but Jesse would make him miss and answer with hard punches and knees. Jeff fired some hard roundhouse kicks to the body which Jesse caught, and followed through by kicking the supporting leg, dropping Jeff to the canvas. Jeff was stunned with an onslaught of punches, kicks, and knees (an overhand right, did the trick) and given several standing eight counts. Just before the end of the second round, another vicious onslaught of punches, kicks, and knees found Jeff in trouble. A hard right body hook found its mark on Jeff's ribs just before the bell sounded. Jeff was unable to come out for the third giving the Canadian Jesse 'Smiles' Miles the win by 2nd round TKO.
Jeff Moody has asked for a rematch and it has been offered to him. The fight is tentatively scheduled for Friday April 27th, 2007 in Calgary, Canada. The promoters are still waiting for an answer from Mr. Moody's camp.

Making her ring debut, Alana Dunbrack (Mike Miles Muay Thai / Calgary, Alberta) squared off with MMA athlete, Andrea Miller (Salt Lake City, Utah) who had approximately 3 fights under her belt. This was a war that the crowd went crazy over! Andrea came out swinging for the fences, trying to knock Alana out from the moment they touched gloves. This was Andrea's game plan throughout the fight. As Andrea stepped in with big swinging punches, Alana attempted to use her teeps and roundhouse kicks to keep the American at bay. Andrea was able to get past Alana's kicks and connect with some big shots before Alana was able to clinch and begin to work her knees. From this point on, the majority of the fight was spent in the clinch. Alana worked her knees very well and kept up a high work rate in the clinch. While Alana dominated on the inside with knees, Miller dominated on the outside with punches, rocking Alana a couples times throughout the fight. Alana showed great heart and weathered the storm, but Andrea Miller connected with more telling shots to take the win deservingly by unanimous decision.

In the only international MMA fight and the Main Event of the card, Simon Toddington (Progressive Fighting Academy / Lethbridge) defeated Dave Barrington of Salt Lake City (Jeremy Horn) by arm bar 1st round.
